December 8th Risengrød


Risengrød is a classic Danish chrismas food. You basically take 125g of rice and boil it in 1L of full cream milk for an hour, then add cinnamon, sugar, and butter on top of it. It's pretty good. But its not, as you'd think, a desert (it tastes pretty similar to rice pudding). Rather, its actually eaten before the meal - my danish teacher told me that in the old days, they fed it to the children at xmas so that they wouldn't each too much of the expensive main meal! Posted by Hello
